With the win of the vote for our project on the EOCA website, we have now reached a milestone, that half of the forest is paid for. With a doubling of the collection compared to last year, we need to continue with what has the biggest impact so that we can finish the collection for Iglekärr as soon as possible. As shown on the map, the biggest income now comes from forest squares and forest traps.

Gammelskogen wants more forest guides for Christmas

We believe that we can speak with our hearts for all the creatures of the old-growth forest and wish for more forest friends for Christmas. Monthly donors are the backbone of the collection. It is with their security behind us that we can even go to the negotiating table with a private forest owner and talk about buying a forest. Other donations come more spontaneously at times, such as this December, which is gratifying. Sometimes spontaneous gifts create real rushes of joy and big shocks. Each new forest patron creates small-shots and the autogiro draw provides regular shot-motion on the 28th of each month.

Christmas shopping in forest shop and reduce consumption

When you buy a product or service, the recipient uses the money for more consumption or production. But money given to natural heritage by "shopping" in the forest "shop" goes to protect forests for all time. The forest is taken out of the production-consumption cycle, thus reducing Naturarvet, gift by gift, consumption in society. And then naturally follows the question...

...What about old-growth forest and the carbon balance?

There are frequent suggestions or requests that donations to Naturarvet could be used as carbon offsetting. To understand the concept of carbon offsetting, we recommend this light-hearted educational video on youtube. Even if carbon offsetting is not a solution, it is always a good idea to donate to Naturarvet in order to save nature from ourselves. Forests purchased by Naturarvet will be protected forever, talk about long-term.

Tree fields planted for climate protection purposes can be cut down and become carbon in the atmosphere again. This will never happen with Natural Heritage forests, which also contribute to protect biodiversity. If you would like to make an unofficial contribution to climate compensation, you can expect to make a donation of SEK 200 per tonne of CO2 equivalent. The 20 square metres old-growth forest that are then preserved for all time are likely to act as a carbon sink for this tonne in 1000 years' time. An official page for calculating the CO2 emissions of a flight can be found here.

If you want to know more about the value Naturarvet creates, you can read about it by clicking here and to spread the word about the climate benefits of Natural Heritage, you can download our A4 information sheet by clicking here. This sheet is also available in A3 format if you want to print it in poster size.

Payment methods

There was a misunderstanding last time about Plusgirot ceasing to be a payment method at the end of the year. Only Plusgirot private will be discontinued. You can still pay donations to Naturarvet by plusgiro, bankgiro, swish, direct debit, credit and debit card and bank transfer. Read more about the different ways to contribute under the "Contribute Now" tab on our website.

Remember to click!

Each click secures the living space for a stalk of fragile nerve moss, for example. So the more people who click, the more moss cushions can find a safe home. Click for mosses and all other creatures in the endangered old-growth forest every day on our website. And take the opportunity to get some Christmas cheer with the Natural Heritage slideshow. You can do this by clicking on the eye symbol at the bottom of our homepage. For beautiful birdsong to accompany the slideshow, click on the sound icon. Clicking on these symbols again will bring back the text and turn off the sound. This is one of the soothing images from the slideshow from Iglekärrs old-growth forest.

We hope to hear from you with more good news soon. That's our New Year's wish for 2016. And with that, we wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

Lav well! Lo Jarl, Director of Operations
