Last move before the municipality's decision! We are working hard to inventory fungi, lichens and mosses in Våneviks-Påskallaviks old-growth forest 27-30 October. The money we raise will be used for a consultant (lichens and fungi) for two days and for travel, board and lodging for two people who contribute voluntarily (mosses) for two days.
Naturarvet wants to acquire an area of more than 50 ha of the Vånevik-Påskallavik recreational area and zoned forest areas south of Vånevik and north of Påskallavik in Oskarshamn municipality. The municipality may decide to sell the area to Naturarvet or perhaps to protect the area itself. But it requires political will and the County Administrative Board to get its feet under it and not grant an exemption from the Species Protection Order.

Våneviks old-growth forest is threatened by a 72 year old zoning plan for the construction of villas. The forest, which has everything in terms of natural values and also other protective values such as urban and archipelago proximity, would, if the detailed plan had been decided today, be covered by 300 m of extended beach protection.
We are now focusing on further strengthening our knowledge of the area's value cores. We are also expanding into the southern part of the forest, Sjöhagen, directly north of Påskallavik. The whole area, including 8 wooded islets, is an important stepping stone between protected areas in the archipelago and further inland.
