Naturarvet is currently bidding on a magical old-growth forest on Gräsö in northern Roslagen. The forest on the left in the picture risks becoming a hygge like the one on the right in the picture within a year unless Naturarvet acquires the forest.
If you would like to help save it from felling and thinning within the next year, you are welcome to contribute to the Natural Heritage fundraising? All contributions, large or small (but preferably not less than SEK 50) are welcome.
We visited the forest on Tuesday-Wednesday and are delighted. So are the osprey and the lesser spotted woodpecker that live here and the sea eagle that hunts here.
The property is located on both sides of Svartsundet at Söderbodfjärden and is in the southern part on the neighbor's land surrounded by a large hygge and otherwise thinned forest, by Stora Enso.
On the property there are two large and some smaller alpine meadows. There are many old trees and the age of the forest is estimated at over 120 years in large parts. There are really old pine trees with armored bark and spruce trees large enough to house the osprey.
Abundant presence of large aspens and lots of dead wood throughout the property. Inventory by lichen, fungus and moss experts as well as insect connoisseurs and herb specialists is needed here.
But first and foremost, we must win the bidding. Will you contribute to the first Natural Heritage old-growth forest on the East Coast?
The images below are from either side of a pipeline route of 1. forest planned for felling in 2020-2021 and 2. forest planned for voluntary allocation as nature conservation untouched. Which forest would you like protect?
