Biofuel is the death of the old-growth forest

Four years ago, voices were raised against the destruction of rainforests due to the use of palm oil in vehicle fuel. Two years ago, we began to warn that the big investment in biofuels would be the death knell for the last old-growth forests in Sweden as well. When the companies "accidentally" felled a key biotope, there was no outlet for the wood in their FSC-certified products. It had to become biofuel instead. There is no FSC certification that prohibits wood from key biotopes and other forests with high nature values. It is fantastic to see that many voices are now being raised to stop the madness of burning our old-growth forests. This is totally the wrong direction to go, both in terms of the climate and the precious life in old-growth forests. Contrary to the distorted notion that burning "renewable" fuel is good for the climate, all remaining old-growth forests must be protected immediately, for the sake of life and the climate.
