Bank account number and clearing number

A Swedish bank account number always consists of a clearing number (four digits) and an account number. The number of digits in the account number varies from bank to bank.

When transferring money to another bank, you must always enter the clearing number first and then the account number without extra characters, such as dashes and dots.

For example, an account in SEB with clearing number 5365 and account number 01 234 56 should simply be entered as 53650123456

An account in Handelsbanken with e.g. clearing number 6789 and account number 123456789 should be entered as 6789123456789

An account with Swedbank or an independent savings bank with e.g. clearing number 8567-9 and account number 102 304 5-6 should be entered as 85670010230456

Sometimes Swedbank has a fifth digit in the clearing number that starts with 8, e.g. 8327-9. The fifth digit should not be registered in Hembanken. When you make a transfer to Swedbank, account numbers beginning with 8 must always consist of a total of fourteen digits. If it contains fewer digits, you should fill in with zeros between the clearing number (the first four digits) and the remaining digits of the account number.

* For account numbers with fewer than 10 digits, Hembanken automatically adds zeros between the clearing number and the account number so that the entire account number is always 10 digits long.
