Nature's rights for old-growth forests

What about Natural Rights in Natural Heritage Forests?

There have been a couple of other recent initiatives to protect forests. There is the HFA Sweden Foundation, which was formed in May, and last month Rebecka LeMoine's birthday fundraiser, which will be the starting point for a new foundation. There have been questions about how the future foundation differs from e.g. Naturarvet. In response to this question, Rebecka has emphasized that the new foundation will focus on incorporating the Rights of Nature into its statutes in order to consider the forest as a living subject with its own rights.

What about Natural Heritage Charterdo they safeguard the rights of nature? Although the terminology is not included, since the foundation was formed in 2004 before the concept of Nature's rights began to gain a foothold in Sweden, the Collection Foundation Naturarvet is in practice a strong guarantor of Nature's rights in the forests owned by Naturarvet. The conditions for this are created by:

1. Naturarvet is a separate legal entity whose sole purpose is to acquire and own old-growth forest. There is no profit motive or association to serve the interests of its members.
2. Only the forest's own interests are served by a total ban on all logging and no other forestry or agriculture.
3. Forests owned by Naturarvet cannot be sold. This means that the economic value of the forest is 0 SEK, even in the accounts, and that the protection is permanent.
4. The Natural Heritage Board shall manage the Natural Heritage forests by ensuring that they are not cut down, looted, littered or otherwise vandalized.

Take care in the forest and countryside. The risk of fire is high right now, so when enjoying coolness, mushrooms and berries in the old forest, avoid grilling or doing other things that can form sparks or embers. Donate your own embers to the Natural Heritage collection 😉.
