Help us preserve Jämtskogen
Help us preserve Jämtskogen

Naturarvet now has a unique chance to save a late-successional mixed conifer forest in Jämtland. A place where over 200-year-old spruces rise to the sky, where bogs, springs and streams give life and where many of our most endangered species have their home. A climate beneficial old-growth forest where both trees and soil contribute to continued high carbon sequestration, which is crucial to meeting climate goals.
In order for the forest to be purchased and preserved in perpetuity, SEK 6.5 million is needed. Thanks to all our fantastic donors, Naturarvet has already secured part of the funding. But we need to raise another SEK 1.5 million. And we need your help!
Why this particular forest?
- High natural values - this almost untouched spruce and pine forest contains elements of deciduous trees that favor biodiversity.
- Red-listed species - the area is teeming with life. There are red-listed three-toed woodpeckers (NT), wolverine (NT), pine tit (NT), spruce tick (NT), wrinkled skin (VU), woolly tick (NT), cracked spruce (VU) and many more.
- Living water - the streams in the area are an important life-giving part of the forest and act as a spawning ground for trout, among others.
- Flowering diversity - here you will find, among other things, the spider orchid, which grows abundantly in the damp areas.
Protecting Jämtskogen means preserving a piece of Swedish wilderness forever. Here, nature can continue to develop at its own pace, in a safe living environment. Naturarvet will preserve the forest for all time.
