There is no time to lose in protecting the last old-growth forests in Sweden. That's why Naturarvet welcomes two new staff members - Lotta Ihse and Pamela Groop - who will focus on the important work of spreading the message of protecting ancient forests to more people.
Lotta Ihse is a nature guide and forest bathing guide with a long experience in communication. She runs her own business in nature tourism with the goal of reconnecting people with nature.
- Trees and many vital species have no voice of their own in our human society. I want to use my thirty years of experience in communication and marketing to give them a chance to be heard," says Lotta.
Pamela Groop is a creative and purpose-driven communicator with a passion for nature. She is a sustainability strategist with a strong drive to create change.
- Nature is a passion, and my heart beats especially for the stillness and power of the forest. At Naturarvet , I combine my creativity and strategic acumen to highlight the priceless value of old-growth forests and help preserve them for the future," says Pamela.
More than half of all threatened species in Sweden are linked to old-growth forest. Some species develop so slowly that they cannot reproduce unless the forest is left untouched and becomes old enough. Thanks to the natural interaction of all species, large amounts of carbon, about 70% of all carbon in the forest, have been stored in the soil over millennia. About 30% is in the biomass of trees.
The areas of old-growth forest have declined sharply in Sweden during the 20th century. Today, only a few percent of the Swedish forest can be considered unprotected old-growth forest. Only 3.4% of all productive forest land below the mountain range is formally protected. Every year, more old-growth forest is felled than is protected. That's why Naturarvet exists! To give everyone the opportunity to help preserve Sweden's last old-growth forests. It's urgent...
With the help of two new employees, we look forward to working with you to give the last old-growth forests a chance to remain standing for all time. 🙂
