1. Biodiversity

Biodiversity is promoted and conserved in the long term
- 50% of Sweden's threatened species depend on old-growth forest habitats. In Sweden there are many different old-growth forest habitats depending on region, latitude, bedrock, topography and soil type. Each old-growth forest biotope must exist undisturbed in varying areas, with the south usually having a larger area than the north. The habitats must form part of a functional ecological network of forests.
- Naturarvet forests complement the authorities' setting aside of nature reserves and other protection with forests that are otherwise neglected due to a lack of resources. 3.4% of Sweden's land area is protected productive forest, of which 1.8% is below mountainous forests (2019). The target is 8-10% of the land area. Perhaps 2% of the land area is still unprotected old-growth forest, at risk of deforestation if not protected quickly.
