2. Beneficial to the global climate

Preserving untouched old-growth forest helps reduce the carbon footprint.

  • Carbon stored in undisturbed ground gets to remain there, instead of being released into the atmosphere. A substantial amount of carbon released into the air and water from traditional silviculture is caused by trenching, vehicle damage, and site preparation. Untouched old-growth forest also binds carbon dioxides from the atmosphere, so that more and more carbon is stored in the ground. Old-growth forest is a carbon sink!
  • Protection is the most efficient method for rapidly decreasing the carbon emissions, as old forests with large stores of carbon are being threatened by deforestation and other forms of exploitation (e.g. the extraction of oil, fossil fuels, and minerals).
