Club 100,000

Even our popular old-growth forest painter John Bauer had his black days. He knew that when the axe had gone through the forest, it was dead, like the forest. He often wandered in the woods to get inspiration for his magical paintings. A hygge could also be an inspiration – to see the darkness in the world – to see the death of the forest and express it simply in a sketch on a piece of paper.

Yesterday we got Magasin 365 in the mailbox. On page 87 there is an article about Naturarvet and the Nature Bonus, which we were happy to receive in September. It is also said that we hope to be able to use the Nature Bonus as a contribution to buy fire-damaged natural forest south of Lillhärdal in Härjedalen from the owner Bergvik Skog AB.

After three months of hopeful conversations, we were informed by the County Administrative Board of Jämtland that they will invest on their own in, among other things, another of Bergvik's fire-damaged areas north of Lillhärdal. Thus, one of the conditions that Bergvik has set as a condition, which involved cooperation with the County Administrative Board, falls.

Our fundraiser in memory of Gammelgranen has so far generated fantastic promises and gifts of SEK 1.1 million. That is not enough for an acquisition and now we need to quickly get many more promises and contributions from many people to keep hope alive. Forest in the area is likely to be harvested on fire-damaged timber and scarified and planted with monoculture in the coming year. This destroys the opportunity to protect the area as a whole and to create the conditions for a unique fire-damaged natural forest area to develop naturally into a fantastic forest. old-growth forest in a couple of hundred years.

Ywonne Jarl was quoted in the article in Magasin 365 regarding the ambition to create the 100,000 Club. The goal is 100,000 donors who contribute at least SEK 100 per month to be able to acquire old-growth forest SEK 100 million per year. We can then every year protect areas in northern Sweden up to 7000 hectares or in southern Sweden about 1 000 hectares of prime old-growth forest for that amount.

Above all, if we already had the money for the fire-damaged forest in Härjedalen, we could already have had a contract for it. Are we to be able to be efficient with the acquisition of old-growth forest For the next ten years, it is a prerequisite that we already have money in our coffers when an opportunity to acquire forest arises.

Creating the 100,000 Club is a vision that would powerfully give the old-growth forest new opportunities to live on. Donors can work together to set up a support association to help raise the funds Naturarvet to be a major player to be reckoned with in the national nature conservation. It also requires smart marketing activities. And marketing costs money. Money that we will get back many times over. Surely it must be the worst hype to be in the 100,000 Club!
