Naturarvet topped Biodiversity Day 2018 by signing a contract for Skarnhålan old-growth forest, 40 ha of genuine old-growth forest with the highest natural values in the whole of Risveden. Now we have the chance to connect an even larger contiguous protected area with Solliden and Iglekärr in the west, Ekliden in the center and Skarnhålan in the east. old-growth forest is an ecosystem with a long continuity, a forest in balance, many different trees of different ages and with dead wood such as rakes and flames. It provides a habitat for a diversity of plants and animals, which are also part of the old-growth forest. It is where the carbon is stored and remains intact. You and I thrive there because we can experience the harmony of the wild, the quiet, the joyful beauty.
Join the journey and build a Naturarvet of Swedish old-growth forest through Naturarvet. So far, three forests have been protected through the work of Naturarvet. Now the ambition is to step up the pace and protect more forests faster. When there are many of us together, it is possible. Individuals, companies, other organisations, forest owners - all the people - your and my efforts will protect Sweden's last old-growth forests!
NEXT FOREST: IN MEMORY OF THE OLD FIR
The Collection In Memory of the Spruce Tree honours the symbol of Iglekärrs old-growth forest, Gammelgranen, who died during the forest fire in May 2018. The 600 ha of a large fire field identified by Naturarvet in Härjedalen has now been voluntarily set aside by the new owner Stora Enso. We have received a preliminary report that both bears and forest birds are feasting on spring primroses and thriving on the new burn area.
We've already looked at some other areas that haven't burned. We have not yet been able to locate a forest that has the right criteria and is for sale. Please feel free to tell us about old-growth forest areas that are worthy of protection and might be for sale.
