Thursday 8/12: Ännamusskogen in Jokkmokk municipality ...

... is located on the southern shore of Lake Sakkat, which on its northern shore offers accommodation in Årrenjarkas Fjällby. The Ännamus Forest of 70 ha was the first forest that Naturarvet (then "A click for the forest") acquired in 2006. The entire area of the mountain forest is assessed as a key biotope and is a hotspot for high nature values. The natural heritage acquisition protects the forest in perpetuity.

As a hotspot, it is also important for maintaining a remnant of Green Infrastructure (GI), which has been weakened by extensive logging in the areas north of Sakkat and further east along the river (blue coldspots on the map) and west of Ännamusskogen south of the lake. The location between the large contiguous protected areas to the south and up to the mountains north of the lake makes it a vital contact point in a GI that has otherwise been largely broken by the last 20 years of logging in the area.

Thank you Thanks to great commitment from the founders of Naturarvets and many companies that sponsored the "click" and many small and some larger gifts from forest-loving people, the Ännamus forest could be saved from felling. The County Administrative Board is working on a long-term project to expand the large nature reserve Pärlälven's mountain primeval forest and has promised to include the Ännamus forest in the future expansion of the reserve up towards Sakkat.
