A dear friend of nature and of us at Naturarvet has passed away. Leif Danielson's life's work is invaluable for the preservation of the old-growth forests in Risveden. He has been a key person in documenting and proposing areas for protection, which he compiled and followed up on this website. Leif has inspired and mentored young talents to deepen their knowledge of nature. He has also guided many groups and shared his love of the forest and his local knowledge of e.g. Natural Heritage Forest areas.
With his knowledge and his great passion for old-growth forests, Leif has helped to identify the forest areas that Naturarvet has protected in Ale municipality - Verle old-growth forest, Iglekärrs old-growth forest and Skarnhålans old-growth forest. In addition, large areas of forest worthy of protection in Risveden have been given permanent protection, largely thanks to Leif's involvement. As a forest ranger in the West Coast Foundation, he also marked out paths, trails and nature reserves. As a long-time forest patron in Naturarvet , he helped protect over 2,000 square meters old-growth forest that can store 25 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year, forever.
In 2022, Naturarvet acquiredUllersjöbäckens old-growth forest at Stora Blåsjön in northern Jämtland. We did not know that it was a favorite place for Leif in the mountains. He was pleasantly surprised when he heard the news and contributed a picture of Ullersjöbäcken from the top of Rödfjället from one of his visits to the area. From his relatives we have received the picture above where he is enjoying nature at the fantastic Ullersjöbäcken.
The relatives have also, based on Leif's wishes, started a collection to mark an area of Ullersjöbäckens old-growth forest in Leif's memory. Anyone who wants to honor the memory of Leif, this fighter for the old-growth forest, or just express their love for nature that you share with Leif and thousands of others in Naturarvet, is welcome to contribute to the collection. You can find out how to contribute on this fundraising page.
